Places of interest in Portsmouth The Mary Rose - This 16th century warship sank accidentally en route to an engagement with the French. After it was successfully raised it is now on display in Portsmouth and offers a fascinating insight into what naval warfare was like during that period. Other historic ships - On display near the Mary Rose in Portsmouth's historic dockyard are other ships including Lord Nelson's flagship, the HMS Victory and the worlds first iron battleship, the HMS Warrior. Also in the same area are Portsmouth's modern naval docks where you can see modern war ships.
